Greeting the New Year

!!!Greeting 2026!!!

Wednesday, December 31, 2025 – Thursday, January 1, 2026

Old year…New year.  In this our 10th year we will celebrate that we have survived a year marked by war and unrest in Russia, Ukraine, Gaza, Sudan, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Haiti, South Korea and Ecuador.  We have seen humanity crumble and been asked what it means to be human.  Peace talks and Humanoid Robot Games have taken place in the midst of children dying and the weaponizing of hunger.  Space exploration, gang violence, carnival, festivals, crime, economic pressures have all rubbed shoulders.  Through tariffs and Melissa but we are still standing.

All of 12 months have passed. We have laughed and cried, been angry, sad and happy.  Some were born and some have died.  The good news is that some of us are still here to grasp the opportunity to be in gratitude.  It is time again to gather, reflect, review and count our blessings….or curses.  Time to examine what and who served us well, or not well, and make some choices around future actions, practices and companions.  Because we made it through 2025, there is need to give thanks, a motivation to be in gratitude and a necessity to recognise and compile the lessons taught to us in and by 2025 even as we make way for 2026 and its possibilities.

We will gather at Sankofie, to 'consida wi consideration,' reflect, reason and examine the tremendous learnings of the soon to be old year.  With joyful spirits, we will welcome together yet another New Year and receive the guidance that comes with it.  Sunrise will meet us in ceremony at Wickie Wackie Beach, greeting Grandfather Sun as he makes his 2026 debut, and honouring our ancestors and deities some of whom crossed the oceans to make ‘home’ here in Taino Jamaica.  To participate in our beautiful new year ritual, please bring 7 different fruits (at least 3 of each), 7 different grains, honey, flowers, strong drink, candles, 7 different candies (7 each) and 3 eggs.  Please also bring gifts to greet, thank and pay tribute to the ancestors and spirit guides for all they have already done and to make your first deposit for all the blessings you are praying to receive in 2026.  Financial offerings will go towards our hurricane Melissa Restoring Community effort.

Come join Us….
